Dundernoon Zoo is a very special zoo in rural Australia - instead of a gift-shop it has a fancy-dress costume shop for visitors to dress-up as animals while they visit the zoo.

Sophie is a small, shy, lonely little girl who visits the zoo a lot, she feels less vulnerable dressed-up in an animal costume and befriends the animals.

One night after the zoo closes, Sophie discovers the animals secretly come out of their enclosures and enjoy the freedom of the zoo. She then discovers the animals in the costume shop - having fun together dressing-up as other animals!

When one of the animals goes further, and ventures outside the zoo, he is captured by an animal smuggler. Then Sophie is the only one who can lead the animals on a daring rescue to bring him back before his empty enclosure is revealed and the animals' nightly freedom in the zoo is discovered.
